Henchmen and Enablers: How much friggen evidence do Congressional Republicans need to admit they supported a ruthless dictator who will soon ignore the law at will? By Hal M. Brown
It isn't only MAGA Republicans, it is Democrats clinging to hopes that Trump won't be as bad as he will be.
Trump has henchmen like those below who actually control people with guns:
He also has his enablers in Congress. Count them as each and every Republican.
In the short time he’s been president consider how much law breaking Trump has done.
This was the main page of HUFFPOST this morning:
This is what it is now:
I won’t put these on all day. Here’s the last one:
Political scientist Norm Ornstein sees what is happening clearly. He wrote:
"You are beyond vile. You have no idea if the ones that were picked up and sent illegally to an El Salvador prison are all violent criminals. You abused the plain language of the law, gave them no due process, and defied a legitimate court order. This is American Gestapo." (Read article on RawStory)
He is thinking about the Nazis and so am I.
At the present time Trump is having his legal team dredge up obscure laws to justify actions like this. There will be a time in the not too distant future when he won’t even bother with this.
The way that the Republican members of the House and Senate are pretending that he’s not about to make the entire Congress irrelevant is the height of not merely naiveté, but as a therapist I’d have to consider making a diagnosis of delusional disorder for them. If I had a patient with this level of denial of reality, I’d have them see our clinic psychiatrist for a prescription of an anti-psychotic medication.
This makes me consider the timeline of World War II and how many Americans denied that Hitler would eventually become a threat to their homeland. The Nazis invaded Poland on Sept. 1, 1939. It only took France and Britian two days to declare war on Germany.
Here’s a timeline (from timeline of German wars going back to 1918)
September 1, 1939 Hitler invaded Poland using Blitzkrieg (lightning war) tactics. Although the Poles fought back they were quickly defeated and Poland was occupied.
September 3, 1939 Britain and France declared war on Germany
April 9, 1940 Denmark and Norway invaded and occupied
May 10, 1940 Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France invaded and occupied
July 10, 1940 Battle of Britain began – German Luftwaffe attempted to gain control of British airspace through defeat of the Royal Airforce.
October 1940 Daylight and night bombing raids on Britain (The Blitz) by the Luftwaffe were abandoned. Hitler also delayed and later abandoned plans to invade Britain.
April 6, 1941Yugoslavia and Greece invaded and occupied
June 22, 1941Operation Barbarossa – 3 million German troops invaded Russia
December 5, 1941 German advance in Russia halted by Russian winter and Russian counterattacks.
December 11, 1941 Hitler declared war on the United States. Following Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor on 7th December the United States had declared war on Japan. Under the terms of the Anti-Comintern Pack Hitler was bound to declare war on the United States
If only the Republican Trump sycophants elected to represent their states and districts, and the country as a whole, saw that what Trump has done since he assumed office on January 25 was pave the way for becoming a dictator.
If only they were like France and Britain in 1939. Instead they are more like the United States when it came to World War II. It took us until the day after the Pearl Harbor attack to declare war on Japan and then, four days later, to declare war on Germany. There had to be people in the United States who saw the inevitable. From what I’ve read this includes FDR who was facing an election. He knew that because of isolationist sentiment in the U.S. if he brought us into the war he would lose.
Those in the United States who understand that Trump is on a juggernaut similar to Hitler’s to turn the country into a ruthless dictatorship are like the countries of France and England. Everyone who denies this, from Republicans to wishful thinking Democrats writing on Substacks clinging to every victory as if it will actually stop Trump, are like those in the United States who refused to admit that Hitler would eventually try to attack them. He did this through his surrogate Japan on December 7th which, thanks to FDR, has become known as the Day of Infamy. You can play his speech on this website.
What eventual attack on American democracy by Trump will be the wake-up call that the attack on Pearl Harbor was?
Eventually the combined militaries of the Allies saved us from Hitler and Nazism. Militart intervention may be our only hope to be saved from dictatorial Trumpism. This could come if Trump declared a national emergency due to protests and initiated martial law. Patriots in our own military could draw a clear red line saying that if Trump crosses it they will cease to support him. This could result in what is called a soft coup, sometimes referred to as a silent coup. This is an illegal overthrow of a government. Unlike a classical coup d'état, it is achieved without the use of force or violence. (Wikipedia) The alternative would be a coup which involved tanks and paratroopers around the White House.
Either way we’d have to trust the high ranking military officers put in charge to have elections when the country was stabilized.
