"'We Are So Effed': Trump's Bonkers FBI Announcement Has Critics Asking WTF?!" HUFFPOST
Above is the HUFFPOST article which makes it abundantly clear, as if it needed to be made more clear, that Trump, through Kash Patel, intends to turn the FBI into his personal Gestapo. I wasn’t the only one to predict this when I made the following illustration when Trump first nominated him.
Those are members of the Gestapo in the background.
Yesterday I wrote
Trump & Co. have just blown by the "SPEED, NO LIMIT" sign on the road to tyranny.
The Trump blitzkrieg smashed into the speed sign in their juggernaut to conquer democracy. They are now in the village where we live which is on the other side of the hill.
Two days before that I wrote:
We're on the road to tyranny
The speed limit sign we are approaching on the road to tyranny says “SPEED, NO LIMIT.”
You can see from my illustrations how I wanted to convey the idea of the Trump blitzkrieg of tyranny speeding down a country road unrestrained by the speed limit. In the first Substack there’s a hill ahead, in the second you have see the exhaust from the juggernaut, and today using AI I depicted the burning village in the valley on the other side of the hill.
We are living in that village. Our homes are now about to be set afire by Trump’s maruading Gestapo. His policies are about to burn us in other ways. We’re going to suffer third degree burns, but there will be no medical care for many of us.
Forget the happy talk about what people who are flailing about so they don’t sink into the sucking pit of anxiety and despair. These are like the successes the World War II Resistance had against the Nazis. For every German officer they killed the German army gunned down 10 to 20 times as many non-combatants in the village square. If they blew up a bridge, the nearest town would be destroyed.
The Nazi era of America has begun. The smoke you smell in the morning isn’t your neighbor burning leaves, it is your entire life being consumed in flames.
Recommended Substacks for today:
This is by expert on authoritarianism Ruth Ben-Giat about preparing for Trump’s military purge.
Excerpt:
When and Why Do Autocrats Purge Militaries?
Some purges of the military take place within a more general crackdown against political and other elites, as in Stalinist Russia during the Great Terror, or Xi Jinping’s current shakeups of the PLA under the guise of anti-corruption campaigns. Others prepare large-scale mobilizations, as when Adolf Hitler purged the German armed forces a year before the invasion of Poland, or they come before an escalation of an ongoing conflict, as in Stalin’s 1941 purges.
When an established leader feels vulnerable, he might purge the military as part of “coup-proofing.” Officials can become scapegoats for a war going badly, as with Vladimir Putin’s 2024 purges of senior defense officials. Sometimes leaders can micro-manage military policy (as Putin has done intermittently since the start of the war), and this is a sign of weakness and insecurity.
If the authoritarian comes to power via a coup, the purges are immediate and part of the wrenching changes to establish new rules of engagement and codes of behavior appropriate for the use of lethality against a domestic population. That happened in Chile after the U.S.-backed 1973 coup, when the junta’s purges put non-compliant officials in prison, required officers and soldiers to torture thousands, and used military tribunals to deliver “justice” to civilian political opponents.
In general, politicizing a military and rewarding loyalty and ideological fanaticism over competence and professionalism enhances the possibility of negative outcomes. The United States will be no different.
This is what Mary Trump had to say.
She begins calling what Trump’s regime fascist:
We are heading into week five of the fascist Trump regime that has overtaken the United States of America. And a lot of you understandably have been wanting to know what we should do. How do we move forward? How do we get out of this? Who are our leaders?
She goes on to say:
As we've seen, the FBI is now being run by a deviant whose only goal is to serve Donald Trump's interest. The FBI has, essentially, been turned into the Gestapo, and will exercise absolutely no restraint when it comes to making their way down Donald's enemies list. That may be more personal to some of us than others. But the point is that there are a lot of things to be concerned about right now, and they run the gamut from the personal to the global.
She says what I have been saying:
I've also had comments suggesting some of my posts lately are negative. But we really do need to know; we need to know in detail what's going on around us; who's doing what to whom and why, to the extent that we can intuit that. It is not the time to couch things in euphemisms, it's not the time to pull punches, or to pretend that things are better than they are.
Mary Trump, who of course is a clincial psychologist, recommends taking breaks from our worries for our emotional health.
I posted this yesterday but if you missed it, I am posting it again. It is by Sabirna Haake who spent time in Russia. It is worth reading if you missed it. She explains how Trump is “importing KGB thuggery.”
