Here is my take:

Truth Matters

What a hoot of a day yesterday as Trump ascends to the presidency. Call me perverse, but I can only imagine what the voters who supported him by voting or not voting thought about him pardoning people who pooped in the halls of which he occupied along with his billionaires sycophants in tow. What a picture.

And then Elon Musk three times showing off his skill by launching not one but three salutes. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/elon-goes-full-seig-heil-in-clarifying-moment .

Did any of this make his cult nervous? They may have twisted their knickers into a knot. Or not.

These were not hiccups happening. These were actions of tyranny. To be clear.

Oh, my. To state it another way, the billionaires are all in to Trump now and they must understand that they must pay to play. Elon knew that as he bought Twitter so that he could spread division among the rubes and gave Trump a gazilion dollars to destroy the rule of law which has been at the heart of our healthy democracy.

What do his supporters say now? Imagine if your son was one of those police officers at the Capitol Jan. 6th and was beaten with all types of sticks and stones. Would you praise the decision to release all the rebel rousers back into society? I wonder. These people were convicted by a jury of their peers. And yet they were pardoned by one man the Supremes gave carte blanche to …to kkdo whatever he likes which might someday include him telling the Supremes to pound salt. Oh, the schadenfreude that is coming will be undeniable.

It was amusing to see the irony of Trump with his immigrant wife in her 5-inch heels on stage with Vance and his one generation removed immigrant wife declaring war on immigration. At least I think they were there. I didn’t watch.

Can we conclude that we are in dangerous peril of losing the rule of law? I suspect that we are and it scares the shit out of me.

Thank you for the insightful comment. Was I imagining it but did I see an SS hat on Musk? (click link) I relish the shared schadenfreude that will come when Trump's promises turn out to unravel like the tissue of lies and impossible promises that they are. https://bsky.app/profile/halmbrown.bsky.social/post/3lgbih42lns2m

Thanks Sabrina. You're the best! It's a cliche but true about it being better to hang together than hang alone.

Great article. Yes there is nothing “normal” about Trump. There is also nothing normal about any of his cabinet picks save one or two. There is nothing normal about his supporters nor his closest advisors. I agree with you, arrogance is what has destroyed most autocrats in the past. Trump is super arrogant so my hope is that that arrogance, his lack of any understanding of history or the way the world works will be his and his acolytes undoing. We know how he refuses to listen to his advisors as he “knows everything himself”. That may be the only crack in the door through which liberal democracy has any hope of surviving in America. The next few days especially will be very telling. Will the “dictator on Day 1” overplay his hand or have his handlers kept his basest instincts, as well as their own, in check?
