Witches take umbrage at this comparison.

Good point. I didn't want to get too deep into this. Here's an article about the witches in MacBeth: https://www.shakespearehq.com/the-tragedies-of-william-shakespeare/shakespeares-tragedy-of-macbeth-a-synopsis/three-witches-in-macbeth-a-character-analysis/

I’m an English professor and a Wiccan. I understand the cultural reference and maybe most of your readers do, as well. Nevertheless, as Trump himself claims he has been the victim of a “witch hunt,” and many cartoonists/creators depict him as a witch, it just irritates my spirit to encounter a comparison of him to witches, even bad ones. 😉

First, thanks you for your comment. I got your wink emoji so hopefully you are not really offended.

I appreciate hearing from an English professor. My late wife had a PhD in English and, although she ended up as a librarian, I got to know lots of English professors socially at parties we went to while she was in graduate school. I found them to be an interesting and varied group of really smart people. Of course, you know your Shakespeare and MacBeth, and as a Wiccan you know about the persecution of witches throughout history.

The Crucible was required reading when I was in high school. When we lived in Massachusetts we visited the Salem Witch Museum.

Aside from pop culture, where most depictions of witches are of good witches, we still have L. Frank Baum to thank for imagining some of the worst witches in literature.

I used the term "witches brew" not even thinking about Wiccans and not as a cultural reference. I used it for the dictionary definition which is readily understood as a potent or fearsome mixture. Websters uses these examples: "Fireworks release a witches' brew of contaminants" and "facing a witches' brew of economic, political and social problems."

If only Trump was a Wiccan.

Again, thank you for commenting and I hope to hear from you again.

We would not have him. At least those who follow our Rule 1 would not. And we know that what we send out comes back on us, three times over.

The Unnamed One is much akin to the word translated in the King James Bible as "witch" -- well poisoner. King James didn't like witches. We don't like well poisoners.

Thank you, sister. You said it much better than I was about to.
