I've been thinking and saying this for months. A declaration of martial law will be the ruse to call off the midterm elections and end the chance of impeachment and conviction. Unless the Supreme Court (and the military) do something drastic quickly, we're history. I predict he'll see next Saturday's parade as his big, beautiful chance to declare martial law.` God save the Republic.

Thank you for the comment, Donna. You and I, and lots of my friends too. This brings democracy loving Americans (and others around the world) to wonder whether there are people in our armed forces who will take the extraordinary and unprecedented step (in this country) of refusing to follow democracy destroying unconstitutional and illegal orders. If this happens with enough of them we have a potential military coup. Either that, or the threat of that, could lead Trump to back off. I doubt he has this in his personality.

What's next? Live rounds against protesters? When are the troops going to stand up and reject unconstitutional orders? Will they? This is worse than the 1960s by far.

Dear Robot Bender: I always appreciate your comments. I doubt Hegseth will let his warriors onto the streets without live ammunition. Whether they are locked and loaded remains to be seen. Having been part of the anti-war protest movement in the 1960's I agree with you on your comparison. This could make Kent State look like a severe attack of hiccups. At least back in the day, even though we despaired about having an effect, ultimately our protests did play a big part in ending the war - that and Walter Chronkite's statement and the fact that we were losing.

Thank you for the compliment. 😊

I knew rationally that this was likely, but I'm getting a case of nerves right now. We both can't and won't leave. We have kids and grandkids here. They'll need us.

I've read enough history that I know it only takes one person with a loaded gun to change the world. You mentioned Kent State, for example. I think of WW I, JFK, MLK, RFK. That's just a short list from the 20th Century.

I don't think it is farfetched to think that Tom Homan wishes that someone would seriously hurt or even kill someone trying to stop the protestors. He'd think it would preferably an ICE officer since they work for him, but it could be a National Guard soldier or police officer. It's possible this has also crossed the minds of Trump, Hegseth. Bondi, Noem, Miller, and others who are just waiting for an excuse to go all in on martial law and a brutal response. If this happened you can bet you'd see those Marines from Camp Pendleton in armored vehicles in LA. and Paramount.

I can see some of these people not just keeping this fantasy totally to themselves but even feeling so unassailable that they talk about it with people they trust who think along the same lines.

They are champing at the bit to just have a better reason to lock and load and give their troops the order to fire at will.

This is what can happen when you have psychopaths in charge of people with guns.
