In the game of craps the odds are always against the player. To the extent that winning depends on luck Trump is on risky ground. The war will distract as long as we are winning, but start to lose people will realize that Trump has loser stamped all over him.
Good take. As of this morning, 3 U.S. servicemen have been killed. That won’t play well - especially since his argument for a preemptive strike is full of holes!
Hal, thank you for your fine newsletter. The more we can educate ourselves about Felon Trump and his “moral slum of an administration,” as conservative columnist George Will put it, the better. We have to get to the midterm elections to change the balance of power in the House and Senate this fall; voting is our only remedy against fascism. Thanks again and keep up the good work my friend!
Unless they are planning to put boots on the ground in Iran, this is just "playing with bombs." Regime change doesn't come from air strikes. You'd think after Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc., they'd know better. All they've done is kick a hornet's nest. Iran will just rotate in another roster of fanatics and keep going. They have enough Shaheds to make multiple Kievs (over 50,000 at last count) and can turn out 500+ every month in every garage with minimal tools.
All that's likely is that a lot of people are going to die for Trump’s ego. Again.
I agree though I don't like the term "boots on the ground." How about saying "bodies on the ground." (Good title for another Substack??? Yup.... I just wrote it and it will post in 12 hrs and include your comment) I wonder if Iran will pull it together enough so there's even a legitimate government for them to basically surrender to the US to get us to stop the bombing and agree to all of our terms should some of their leadership say they want to do this. Before Trump started the war there was a government that controlled their nuclear program and could be negotiated with. If there is a struggle for power in Iran there may be no single group that can come to terms in a negotiation.
